Keeping things status quo keeps you stuck

I know you can relate: you own your own business, make your own schedule, choose the priorities, and pick your own clients.  It’s a dream owning your own business, isn’t it?   Work is a breeze because you answer to no one.

Are you laughing yet?  I know you hear this from your friends and family!  “What do you  have to worry about?  You are your own boss!”

The truth is, as a small business owner it is incredibly difficult to make real progress.  You must maintain discipline to set and keep work hours or meet client deadlines – and that is just the work you need to do to keep the business running.  What about all those nagging things that you want to change?

It feels impossible to fix the simplest problems because you just don’t have time, or you aren’t sure where to start.  You are stuck, my friend.  And by not giving anything a priority, you’ve made the decision to stay stuck.

Congratulations, you are keeping things status quo.

Until you make a change, nothing will change.

When you are feeling stuck, seek help from a mentor, business friend, or coach.  An outside resource can listen to your concerns and challenges without the emotion and anxiety.  They can ask questions and provide a different perspective.

I have found it’s not always a lack of desire or time that gets in the way, but a fear of doing the wrong next step.   I help my client’s combat this with a deep dive into the business needs of revenue, operations, brand and work-life balance.  Once we understand the current state compared to the desired state, the roadmap to close that gap becomes clear.
